Chemical Termite Barriers
For existing buildings or in combination with physical barriers, So Pest Off also provides chemical termite barriers and we are accredited with Termidor to use their products.
Non repellent termite insecticides are applied around the perimeter of your property and in areas where termites are likely to enter.
This shield is formed by applying termiticides, which are specialised chemicals that kill termites upon contact. The application of these chemicals can be done through various methods, including trenching, bore holes, and reticulation systems.
Trenching
Trenching involves digging a narrow trench around the perimeter of the building, typically along the foundation. The trench is then treated with a termiticide, which is poured directly into the trench before it is filled back in with soil. The termiticide saturates the soil, creating a continuous chemical barrier that termites cannot pass through. This method is particularly effective because it targets the areas where termites are most likely to enter, such as where the foundation meets the soil.
Bore Holes
For areas that are difficult to access with trenching, such as concrete slabs or paved areas, bore holes are used to apply the termiticide. Small holes are drilled at regular intervals into the concrete or paving around the building’s perimeter. The termiticide is then injected into these holes, reaching the soil or substrate beneath the surface. This method ensures that the chemical barrier is complete, even in areas where traditional trenching is not possible. Once the termiticide has been applied, the holes are sealed, leaving no visible trace of the treatment.
Termite Reticulation System
A termite reticulation system is a more sophisticated method for applying and maintaining a chemical barrier. This system involves installing a network of pipes or tubing around the foundation of the building, either during construction or as a retrofit. The pipes are connected to a reservoir filled with termiticide, which can be pumped through the system as needed. This allows for the even distribution of the termiticide around the property and makes it easy to reapply the treatment over time without the need for additional trenching or drilling.
The reticulation system is particularly advantageous for long-term termite management, as it provides a convenient and efficient way to maintain the barrier.
How They Work Together
These methods can be used individually or in combination, depending on the specific needs of the property. For example, trenching might be used around garden beds, while bore holes are used under concrete driveways, and a reticulation system is installed for ongoing maintenance. By using these methods in tandem, a comprehensive chemical barrier can be created, offering robust protection against termites across all vulnerable areas of the property.
Physical Termite Barriers
Our physical termite barriers offer a non-toxic solution that effectively blocks termites from entering your building. These barriers are part of the pre construction stage in termite protection. They are made from durable materials that termites cannot penetrate.
By creating a continuous barrier around your foundation, this helps to prevent termites gaining a foothold in your property. This method is highly effective and provides peace of mind for homeowners and businesses alike.
In NSW your Termite Risk Management System will include a physical barrier. Read more about what is legally required here.

TERMIDOR
We use Termidor, a highly effective termite control solution. Unlike older style chemicals that termites can detect and avoid, Termidor remains undetectable, ensuring that termites pass through it and ultimately perish. It is highly effective in eliminating termite colonies, as it can be passed on from termite to termite through contact and ingestion.
Termites can detect older chemicals in the soil, and in turn can avoid them. Termites can’t sense Termidor, which means they will continue to pass through the chemicals, killing them through contact & ingestion. Termites are social insects that live together in large colonies and feed and groom each other. So termites that have come into contact with Termidor soon pass it on to others. Even those secondarily affected termites can also pass Termidor on through feeding or contact.
